Additional information for residents affected by wildfires in the Northwest Territories
As wildfires continue in parts of the country, Canada Post is offering free Mail Forwarding to keep residents of impacted communities connected.
Residents affected by wildfires with one of the following postal codes are eligible for this offer: X0E and X1A.
If you are staying in a community centre, hotel, motel or shelter and wish to access free Mail Forwarding service, please go to a nearby Canada Post corporate post office location and request that your mail be forwarded to that location. Please note this service may require several days to take effect. Any mail being held since the evacuation may not be able to reach you right away but new mail being processed can be forwarded.
The following locations are corporate post offices where your mail can be forwarded. If you need further assistance finding a corporate location, please contact customer service at 1-866-607-6301.

If you have a forwarding address, you can request the free service as follows:
- Register at ca/mailforwarding using a credit card to authenticate identity. No fee will be charged to the credit card.
- Go to a post office with a government-issued photo ID (mandatory). Proof of authorization is required to request the free service on behalf of another person. Click here to find a post office.
Mail forwarding services exclude parcel deliveries. To receive parcels at an alternate location, customers can use Canada Post’s FlexDeliveryTM service, which allows customers to have their parcels delivered directly to a post office of their choice.
If residents affected by wildfires purchased the Mail Forwarding service prior to August 30, they can call Customer Service to request a refund.
We thank those affected for their patience during this difficult time.
